Me

The Saga of the Nook

Ever since Barnes and Noble sent out their first press release I have been longing for a nook.  I squashed that desire deep down since I just could not see spending that much on an ereader when I also love printed books the way I do.  I love nothing better than to go to a thrift store and dig or to a bookstore and browse.  I seem to hear the books like something out of Inkheart!  It is love I tell you! Now lurking inside me is huge gadget lover but there is also this thrifty little voice that quite frequently says things such as  “do they really think I am going to pay that much, they must be crazy!” and the like.  So now we come to the point of my little story.   On a whim I bought my incredibly hard to buy for husband a Nook for Father’s Day.  He spends a lot of time at work waiting around and loves to read so I thought that he might enjoy it.  I could see spending money on it for him because he would use it far more than I ever could and would never have to worry about being without a book again.  He was very excited when we presented it to him and has not been seen without it nearby since.  He finds it handy to keep books on hand and it fits into his lunch bag or motorcycle backpack  much better than the thick scifi/fantasy books he typically reads.  He liked it so much I never even really got my hands on it and was expressly forbidden from contaminating it with my girlie books.  He thought everyone at work that keeps looking at it would never let him live down some vampire novel.  He was probably right but I hear quite a few of them are True Blood Fans so maybe my Sookie Stackhouse might not have gone amiss.  As you know the day after Father’s Day they came out with the Nook Wifi which is so much cheaper and at that point I couldn’t stand it any longer my Nook lust took over and  I too had to have a Nook.   This past weekend I went and picked mine up.  Ahh Heaven!  It does not replace books but is satisfying in a whole other way.  What that way is can be a bit hard to describe but ooo it is lovely.  The only thing that bothered me at first was the way it flashes when you turn the page but I quickly became used to it just as we already do with printed books.  It will not be replacing print books for me anytime soon considering there are 8 on my nightstand and a small mountain under it but it definitely holds a special place in my library.  I mean come on its my 2 favorite things!  A book and and a gadget.  Toss in a bit of chocolate and a drink and you may never see me again.

Behold my new love

Hello world!

This is what will be posted on the About Me page.  I thought it fitting to have it be the first post.

Ahh the ancient Who am I question.  Many believe that who you are is not shared by the things you love and do.  I do not believe that.  I believe that the interests and hobbies you have help to define and shape you and are the only way to show people the person you are on the inside.  That said I have no idea what my hobbies and interests say about me feel free to leave your take.  I like feedback.

My name is Katie I am a SAHM mom to 2 little girls (6 and 8 ) and wife to my fantastic and supportive husband of almost 13 years.  I believe in gentle, respectful, instinctive parenting and am proud to be quite a bit crunchy.  I am currently homeschooling one child and watching the other grow way to fast in public school.

Hobbies and Interests are numerous and I pick up and put them down as the seasons change both externally and internally though I have noticed a link between the two.  I am very back to the land,  buy local, why buy it when you can make it better, crafting,  into yoga, bitten by the photography bug,  absolutely addicted to electronics.  Hubby goes so far as to claim I have an EM addiction.  Hubby’s favorite of all my interests is cooking.  I absolutely love to cook create make food sing!   A meal is not just food for your stomach but for your soul.    All that said if I had to only ever do one hobby again it would have to be reading.  I read anything and everything I can get my hands on.

Why blog?

All the cool kids are doing it of course!  Seriously though I find myself reflecting on many things and need a sounding board.  I thought it would give me a place to organize ideas, share them and watch my personal growth.  I wanted to be able to share all the randomness that is me and my little family with our extended family and friends.  I don’t have a set plan for this blog and that is why it is an Adventure.
